Did you know AI data centers create their own microclimate?

AI data centers generate intense heat, in effect creating microclimates, by raising local surface temperatures by an average of 3.6°F and up to 16°F, resulting in localized “heat islands.” This massive heat output and the extreme electricity required to cool the servers have triggered major environmental, political, and regulatory concerns.
The Microclimate Effect:
Heat Islands: AI data centers are warming surrounding land and impacting microclimates for miles around.
Local Water Stresses: Massive volumes of water are evaporated to keep hardware cool. Impacts include water and air pollution.
Grid Overloads: Powering and cooling servers places a massive burden on local energy infrastructure.
Get ready for more utility rate increases.
Carbon Concerns: To meet energy needs, many proposed mega-data centers rely on natural gas, causing regional greenhouse gas emissions to skyrocket.
Even a mid-size 20 MW data center uses as much electricity as the Governor’s hometown of Montclair, which has a population of nearly 40,000. Yet New Jersey is being overrun with data centers without a real plan in place to meet the economic and environmental harm they are and will be causing.
What is the Democrats’ plan for protecting us and the environment?
