Paul’s Plan for Bernards: Fiscal Responsibility, Local Control, and Protecting What Makes Our Town Special

I believe I represent what many Bernards Township residents are looking for in a member of their Township Committee: a fiscal conservative with a live-and-let-live approach to social issues.

I do not hold extreme views on either end of the political spectrum. I am a moderate, and I believe Bernards is a moderate town. Local government should be focused on serving residents, protecting our quality of life, keeping our community affordable, and making responsible decisions with taxpayer dollars.

I also believe my professional background brings experience that can be useful to the Township. I am an attorney with extensive experience negotiating, structuring, and managing complex commercial transactions. On the business side, my background includes logistics, procurement, and supply-chain optimization. These are practical skills involving contracts, costs, negotiations, efficiency, and accountability, all of which matter when managing the business of a municipality.

On policy, I believe Bernards needs a stronger voice when decisions made in Trenton place additional costs or mandates on our residents. I will advocate for greater local control, challenge state policies that I believe unfairly burden municipalities, oppose excessive taxation and anti-business policies, and oppose proposals such as a wealth proceeds tax.

My governing philosophy can be summed up in three principles.

First, neighbors and neighborhoods matter. When development, zoning, traffic, infrastructure, or other significant changes are proposed, the people who live in the affected neighborhoods deserve to be heard. Their concerns should be taken seriously before decisions are made.

Second, we should protect what makes Bernards special. I want Bernards to remain the community people chose when they decided to make their homes here. Growth and change are inevitable, but they should be managed carefully and responsibly, with an eye toward preserving our neighborhoods, open spaces, schools, public safety, and overall quality of life.

Third, affordability must be a priority. The level of tax increases residents have experienced cannot simply be accepted as inevitable. We need to scrutinize municipal spending, look continually for efficiencies, and push back when state mandates impose unnecessary costs on local taxpayers.

I am running because I believe my combination of legal experience, business experience, fiscal conservatism, and moderate approach can contribute something valuable to the Township Committee.

Most importantly, I have laid out specific positions on the challenges facing Bernards and how I believe we should address them. None of the other three candidates running for Bernards Township Committee have the experience, expertise, and skills I offer. None of the other candidates will stand up to Trenton and fight for you the way I will.

My plan is straightforward: keep Bernards fiscally responsible and debt-free, carefully scrutinize municipal spending, protect our police and essential services, resist overdevelopment, preserve the neighborhoods and quality of life that make Bernards special, and fight for greater local control when Trenton mandates threaten our affordability or our community. I will bring transparency, accountability, and practical business judgment to every decision that comes before the Township Committee.
